The first Bonelli’s eagles’ chicks for 2020 are almost ready to fly!

The first Bonelli’s eagles’ chicks for 2020 are almost ready to fly!

Since Greece has been under severe restriction of public movement due to the coronavirus pandemic, the fieldwork activities of the LIFE Bonelli eastMed Project Monitoring Team has been facing difficulties. Nevertheless, the Bonelli’s Eagles do not care for the coranavirus impact on human society but rather keep on working for the perpetuation of their own species.

Our last visit at a well-known nesting site in southern Greece, revealed that the chick of the pair is around 60 days old and seems quite full and happy. The nestling is already huge and with a big appetite, thus demanding an intensive effort by the parents for its well-being. If everything goes according to the plan, the youngster is expected to open his wings and fly with his parents around the nest in about 10 days. Later on, around mid-summer he is going to be fully independent and his own adventures will begin.

We wish him the best of luck!
