Sowing in benefit of the Bonelli's Eagle and the local biodiversity in Naxos island
More than 200 acres of land have been cultivated with cereals in central Naxos for the benefit of Bonelli’s Eagle, contributing to the increase of food availability for Chukar Partridge, wild rabbits, Rock Doves and other prey-species for the eagles on the island. The livestock breeder S. Detsis, local collaborator of the LIFE Bonelli EastMed Project, offered a part of his land that remained uncultivated, in order to be turned into crops for the benefit of the local biodiversity.
The action will be extended to other areas on the island, as well as to other Cycladic Islands, while in parallel, wildlife watering sites will be created.
