Cooperation with the Greek electricity grid operator HEDNO to address the electrocution and collision with hazardous powerlines

Mortality due to electrocution or collision on power lines is one of the most important threats for  the Bonelli’s Eagle.

Yesterday's meeting of the partners of the LIFE Bonelli EastMed Project with the executives of Greek electricity grid operator HEDNO in Athens is an important step for the cooperation of the two sides, in order to deal with the threats of electrocution and collision of birds on the electricity transmission network.

The upcoming project actions include insulation of dangerous pylons in areas important for the species and installation of bird diverters on power cables so that the latter are visible by the birds. These interventions are also expected to be life-saving for many other species of birds that fall victim to electrocution, but also to reduce the amount of damages on the network due to such incidents.
